The Struggle & Suffering of a Middle Child
I’m a middle child. And not just any middle child—my wife says I’m the poster child for every ignored, overlooked, and underappreciated middle kid out there. According to Wikipedia (so it must be true), middle child syndrome is the belief that middle kids get excluded, forgotten, or downright neglected because of their birth order.
Sound dramatic? Maybe, but when it comes to growing grass in this part of the country, we are living the middle child life—and it’s no joke.
Welcome to the Transition Zone… or as I call it, the Middle Child Zone. Or, as we know it, the place where lawns go to suffer.
Up north? Beautiful bluegrass and ryegrass lawns that thrive. Down south? Zoysia and St. Augustine lawns that laugh in the face of heat and drought. And right here? We get stuck in the middle—too hot for northern grasses, too cold for southern ones. Classic middle child treatment: ignored, excluded, and expected to “figure it out.”
So what does that mean for you? It means you’re probably going to need to seed. Around here, it’s not a failure—it’s a fact of life. Part of being a lawn owner in the Middle Child Zone.
At ClassicLawns, we don’t just scatter seed and hope for the best. We’re picky about our seed, our process, and the results. When our crew seeds a lawn, it’s like a ballet only with more dirt and fewer tights. And yes, our seeding is guaranteed.
Throughout August, we’ll be emailing quotes for core aeration and seeding. Keep an eye on your inbox. If you don’t see your quote by the end of the month, give us a shout—or check your junk folder (it’s the middle child of your email, after all).
Meanwhile, you can learn more about our top-tier seeding process by clicking HERE.
Check out this 1977? picture of my family. I’m the one in the middle of my two sisters.
