🌱Getting your lawn ready for seeding is just as important as the seeding itself.

A few simple prep steps now will give your new grass the best chance to sprout, grow, and outcompete weeds when ClassicLawns arrives.

✂️ Mow Short – Before we arrive, mow your lawn as short as possible.

• Ideal height: 2”–2.5”
• This helps new grass compete with your existing turf.

🧺 Bag Your Clippings

• Bag your clippings if you can.
• If you don’t have a bagger, mow twice to break them up.
• Rake and remove any heavy piles of clippings.

🚩 Mark Your Sprinklers – If you have a sprinkler system, please mark all sprinkler heads with flags so we don’t hit them with our equipment.

• Sprinkler flags are available at most hardware stores (about $8 for 100).
• The easiest method: run your system and place a flag next to each head
• Need help? We can provide and deliver 100 flags for $25, or mark your heads for $35.

⚡ Utility Cables

All utility cables should be buried at least 6” deep — but many are not. To avoid damage:

• We will call Dig Rite to mark utilities before your seeding date.
• Please confirm your date with us so marking can be scheduled.
• If you know of any shallow cables, flag them for us.

🐾 Invisible Dog Fences

Invisible dog fence wires are usually buried very shallow.

• Please mark your fence before we arrive.
• We’ll do our best to avoid it, but Classic Lawns cannot be responsible for repairs to invisible fences.

💧 Water Ahead of Time

Water your lawn well for 2–3 days before we arrive. Seeding works best in moist soil.

• Test: you should be able to push a screwdriver easily into the ground.

🌦️ On Your Seeding Day

We’ll be there on the scheduled day, rain or shine!

• If weather, equipment issues, or another delay pops up, we’ll be out the next working day.
