🌱 Getting Your Lawn Ready for Seeding

Preparing your lawn is just as important as the seeding itself.
A few simple steps now will give your new grass the best chance to sprout, grow, and outcompete weeds when Classic Lawns arrives.

✂️ Mow a Little Shorter (If You Can)

• Ideal height: 2”–2.5”This helps new grass compete with existing turf.
• Most important if we’re verticutting.
• If we’re only aerating and seeding, it’s nice but not mandatory—so don’t stress if you can’t mow that low.

🧺 Bag Your Clippings

• Bag if you can.
• If you don’t have a bagger, mow twice to break them up.
• Rake and remove any heavy piles of clippings.

🚩 Sprinkler Systems

• In the past, we charged $35 to mark sprinkler heads. Now we’d rather thank you than bill you!
• If you mark your sprinkler heads before we arrive, we’ll hook you up with a ClassicLawns Swag Bag (T-shirt, koozie, magnet, and more).
• No time to mark? No problem—our crew will mark them.

⚡ Utility Cables

• We will call Dig Rite to mark all standard utilities before your seeding date.
• If you know of any shallow cables, please flag them for us—it helps us avoid them.

🐾 Invisible Dog Fences

• These are often buried very shallow.
• Please flag your dog fence before we arrive.
• We’ll do our best to avoid it, but ClassicLawns will not be responsible for repairs to invisible fences.

💧 Water Ahead of Time (Most Important!)

• Water your lawn deeply for 2–3 days before we arrive. Test it: a screwdriver should push in 2–3 inches easily.
• This is the #1 step for seeding success.
• If the soil is too dry, it’s like trying to aerate concrete.

🌦️ On Your Seeding Day

• We’ll be there on your scheduled day, rain or shine.
• If weather, equipment issues, or another delay pops up, we’ll be out the very next working day.
