Nothing is worse than waking up to a lawn that looks like it’s been through a war.
Protect Your Lawn from Armyworm Damage
Armyworms can destroy a healthy lawn in as little as 24 hours when they invade. They’re most active in late summer and early fall, but infestations can happen anytime conditions are right. If you see brown patches that aren’t from heat or drought, you could be under attack. Call Classic Lawns at 417-812-5321 before the damage spreads.

What Are Armyworms?
Armyworms are large caterpillars that chew through turfgrass fast. In late summer and early fall, they sometimes invade our area in huge numbers. When they’re active, you may see them “marching” across lawns, leaving a trail of destruction.
How to Spot an Armyworm
- Long stripes running lengthwise down the body
- Netlike pattern on the head with a distinct inverted “Y” mark
- Young larvae: light green or tan
- Mature larvae: dark green or brown, 1½ to 2 inches long, almost hairless
What Does Armyworm Damage Look Like?
- Brown spots that look like drought stress
- Ragged, chewed grass blades
- Damage spreading quickly across the lawn — sometimes overnight
- Heavy infestations can shear grass to the ground, leaving bare patches
Where Do They Come From?
The adult armyworm is a moth, usually hatching in south Texas. Strong winds can carry them hundreds of miles in a day. Each female can lay 100–500 eggs. They can’t survive Missouri winters, but warmer seasons down south make it easier for them to reach us.
How We Get Rid of Them
Armyworms are easy to control if caught early. One ClassicLawns Insect Control Treatment can usually wipe them out. 📞 Call 417-812-5321 as soon as you suspect them.
Lawn Recovery After Armyworms
If caught early, your lawn can bounce back with:
- Heavy watering for 2+ weeks to protect the crown of the grass
- Overseeding if areas are too damaged to regrow
We’ll help you decide whether your lawn needs repair or just extra care.
Don’t wait. Armyworms can destroy in 24 hours what took months to grow.
