My dad recently cleaned out his basement and brought me boxes of old stuff they had kept. Mixed in with the pictures, art projects, and knickknacks was every grade card I ever received from grade school through college.
I always remembered being a solid B student, and according to my GPA, I was. There were just a few more “less than B” grades mixed in than I remembered. My dad said he was more surprised by the number of absences than the grades.
I guess it is finally time to come clean. Back in high school, my best friend Jeff and I figured out a way to skip school that was almost foolproof. Almost.
Jeff helped out in the attendance office and realized the office ladies never double-checked when parents called to say their kid was sick. So, many mornings before school, Jeff and I would decide if the weather was just too nice to be sitting in class.
We would leave before 1st hour, head to the gas station, use the pay phone, and pretend to be Mr. Carlson or Mr. Edwards calling in our sick sons.
This worked way more often than it should have. Fishing at the park, playing racquetball, grabbing lunch on the Plaza, even an afternoon Royals game. We had way too much fun on those days.
I still got decent grades because I was blessed with a really good memory. I could have studied harder and got A’s, but I could also skip school, do just enough work, and still get mostly B’s. Sadly, I settled for B’s.
Getting a great-looking lawn is kind of the same. A lawn can skip some steps and still look okay from the road. Green enough. Decent enough. Good enough to pass. That is a B lawn.
But if you want an A lawn, you cannot skip the important parts. Proper fertilization, weed control, grub prevention, correct watering, soil health, fall seeding, and good timing all matter.
At ClassicLawns, we do not want your lawn to just “get by.” We want it to make the honor roll.
Let’s get to work!
